Patanjali Faces Ad Ban For Misleading Claims

Patanjali Ayurved and its Managing Director, Acharya Balkrishna, have been issued a contempt notice by the Supreme Court for disseminating 'misleading advertisements' related to medicinal cures.

In response, the Apex Court has issued an interim order, banning the advertisements of Patanjali Ayurved's medicines. The plea was filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), asserting that a smear campaign is being orchestrated by the self-styled yoga guru and his company. A bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah is overseeing the proceedings.

The court asserted that Patanjali has been engaging in deceptive practices by asserting that its medicines could cure specific diseases without any empirical evidence to support such claims.

Consequently, the court has issued an interim order, prohibiting Patanjali from advertising or marketing any medicinal products claiming to treat ailments specified in the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act.

Additionally, the Supreme Court has issued a contempt of court notice to Patanjali's founders, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, for violating previous court orders.
