OpenAI is reportedly in talks with investors to raise USD 6.5 billion in a funding round that could value the AI giant at an unprecedented USD 150 billion, according to a Bloomberg report. This would be a dramatic jump from the company’s earlier valuation of USD 86 billion, positioning OpenAI as one of the most highly valued startups in the artificial intelligence space.
Thrive Capital, a major backer in previous rounds, is expected to lead the upcoming investment, while other key partners such as Microsoft, Apple and Nvidia are also expected to participate. These tech giants are deeply tied to OpenAI’s success, given their substantial investments and collaborations in various AI projects.
In addition to the equity raise, OpenAI is reportedly seeking to secure USD 5 billion in debt financing from a consortium of banks, a move that signals its ambitious expansion plans. This latest development follows an August report from the Wall Street Journal, which indicated Thrive Capital was preparing to invest around USD 1 billion in OpenAI, with a then-projected valuation of approximately USD 100 billion.
