Instagram has actively promoted online commerce within the app over the past couple of years. On the app, scrolling meant that there was always some sort of sale going on.
The first Instagram shopping announcement was made in 2018. Additionally, Instagram added new options for businesses to entice more customers during the pandemic.
Instagram shopping has taken off and now includes everything from shoes to phone accessories, clothes to food.
The Meta-owned app appears to be focusing less on retail, though. Instagram revealed that certain changes will be arriving for users very soon in a blog post.
According to Instagram's blog post, it mentioned that starting in February, they are redesigning Instagram's navigation to make it easier for people to share and connect with their friends and hobbies."
Changes affecting users
The shortcut "+" for adding content will now be in the centre of the navigation bar at the bottom of the app, with the Reels tab to the right. The Instagram Shop tab will be eliminated as part of this change. Not that folks who have established businesses on Instagram won't be able to make sales.
As they continue to invest in shopping experiences that offer the maximum value for people and businesses across the feed, stories, reels, advertisements, and more, the users will still be able to set up and manage your shop on Instagram, according to Instagram's blog post.
Why this change?
The Information previously said that Instagram was trying to reduce the amount of its retail options.
The main justification for this was that the company preferred to concentrate on its advertising business, which is what Meta does best, rather than its e-commerce operation.
