Social Media Wrap-Up: The Year’s Latest Updates For Brands & Creators

The young Indians are truly making India digital. As digital natives, they are revolutionising the social media with their talent. The GenZ and Millenials are dabbling on different social media platforms, showcasing their talent and more through new and creative content ideas. Social media apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, Youtube, Linkedin and Twitter rolled out new features or modified earlier features not just to make themselves better for the brands, but also for the creators who keep these platforms alive.

Here’s a look at the updates in Social Media that kept the ball rolling in 2022.

New Privacy-Friendly Ad Targeting Options for B2B Brands Announced by LinkedIn

In an effort to comply with changing privacy laws and maintain its ability to offer advertising partners the widest possible reach, LinkedIn had unveiled improved ad targeting choices. All ad categories on LinkedIn have access to LinkedIn's Group Identity audience targeting feature. Advertisers may target the advertisements based on LinkedIn data points thanks to Group Identity, which was first introduced last year with a restricted group of partners.

Reels Update On Instagram

Instagram, a platform owned by Meta, had announced the introduction of a "Scheduling Tool'' for all professional accounts. It announced the feature in a post shared on the platform via its creators handle. It allows creators and businesses to plan images, reels, and carousel posts directly from the app up to 75 days in advance.

Users of Instagram also started receiving "Achievement" badges, with the idea being that these will act as a motivating factor to encourage users to continue sharing Reels more frequently. Additionally, updating the feature, Instagram increased its time limit for reels.

Earlier it was 30 seconds, later it extended to 60 seconds and now 90. In the area of content creation, Instagram will have an edge over TikTok and Snapchat thanks to the 90-second Reels.

Youtube Shorts Monetisation

Youtube had announced in 2022 that the current and upcoming YouTube Partner Program creators will be qualified for revenue sharing on Shorts, starting in the first quarter of 2023.

Ads are interspersed between the videos on the Shorts Feed. Therefore, each month's earnings from these advertisements will be combined and utilised to pay the creators and assist with music licensing expenses.

They will retain 45 per cent of the total money given to creators, which will be split according to their proportion of all Shorts views. Whether they use music or not, the revenue portion will be the same.

Whatsapp Enhanced User Friendliness With New Features

In 2022, a component called Communities was also added to the app to help businesses, organisations and other groups connect more effectively by providing some extra capabilities. Another useful feature WhatsApp launched in 2022 was chat polls. Additionally, WhatsApp has a function called Message Yourself that allows you to use it as a notepad. To put it simply, the application essentially allows you to send messages to yourself and receive them right away. WhatsApp even allows you to pin essential messages, which is a plus.

Twitter 2.0 And Its New Features

Ever since the billionaire Elon Musk took control of Twitter, he has added new guidelines and features virtually every day. Twitter users can now monitor how their message using the newly launched "View count" function.

The platform has now introduced the Twitter Blue membership, which will provide users access to extra services including editing tweets, uploading 1080p videos, reader mode, etc. Once the account has been approved by the company, the user will also receive a blue checkmark and verification. For the web platform, the Blue subscription costs USD eight, and for iOS handsets, it costs USD 11.

Additionally, $Cashtags were added on December 22. This feature is focused on the monetary aspect of the social media website. This tool has been made available for all stock and cryptocurrency enthusiasts. Twitter will automatically insert a link that, when clicked, will direct users to results when they tweet or even search for a big stock, ETF, or cryptocurrency symbol with a $ symbol in front of it.
