RIL, Disney Propose Selling Some Channels To Speed Up Antitrust Approval: Report

To expedite the RIL-Walt Disney merger, both companies have proposed selling some channels to facilitate quicker antitrust approval, according to media reports. However, sources indicate that RIL and Disney are not inclined to alter their cricket broadcast rights.

RIL and Disney have informed the Competition Commission of India that they are willing to sell fewer than 10 TV channels to address concerns about the merged entity's influence in the broadcast market, according to reports.

The channels under consideration for divestment are likely regional ones, with RIL and Disney reportedly contemplating concessions to facilitate the merger. Meanwhile, the NCLT hearing on the Disney-RIL merger, initially scheduled for August 12 did not occur and the previous hearing also ended in adjournment.

Industry speculation suggests that Viacom18 and Walt Disney's Star India aim to finalise the merger by October.
