The Ministry of Tourism is introducing a series of initiatives to celebrate Maha Kumbh 2025, held every 12 years at one of four sacred locations in India. Scheduled from 13 January to 26 February 2025, the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, offers an opportunity to highlight India’s cultural and spiritual heritage while promoting its tourism potential.
A key attraction at the event will be the Incredible India Pavilion, a 5,000 sq ft space designed to serve as a hub for foreign tourists, scholars, researchers, photographers, journalists, expatriates and the Indian diaspora. The pavilion will provide an immersive experience, showcasing India’s cultural richness and the significance of the Kumbh Mela. It will also feature the 'Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Poll', inviting visitors to vote for their favourite Indian tourist destinations.
To cater to the needs of international attendees, the Ministry has established a Tourist Infoline (1800111363 or 1363), operating in ten international languages as well as regional Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Assamese and Marathi. The toll-free service will provide assistance, information and guidance, ensuring a seamless experience for foreign tourists, influencers, journalists and photographers.
A social media campaign has been released to create buzz around Maha Kumbh 2025. Special hashtags like #Mahakumbh2025 and #SpiritualPrayagraj encourage participants to share their experiences. Collaborative posts with organisations like ITDC, UP Tourism and others, along with contests and promotions, aim to amplify the event's visibility and invite people to witness this spiritual spectacle.
To accommodate the influx of visitors, the Ministry is collaborating with key stakeholders such as the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC), IRCTC and ITDC to offer curated tour packages and luxury accommodations. ITDC has established 80 luxury tents at the Tent City in Prayagraj, with IRCTC also providing premium lodging options. A digital brochure featuring these packages has been circulated to Indian Missions and India Tourism Offices worldwide for greater outreach.
For seamless travel, the Ministry has partnered with Alliance Air to enhance air connectivity to Prayagraj from major cities across India, making it easier for domestic and international tourists to access the event.
To encapsulate the grandeur and spiritual essence of the Maha Kumbh, the Ministry will conduct a large-scale photography and videography project. The visuals will be shared across international and national media platforms, showcasing the event’s magnificence and positioning Prayagraj as a premier spiritual and cultural destination.
