Mercedes-Benz India Sees 12.4% Growth; Boosts Indian Market Presence With Rs 3,000 Cr Investment

Mercedes-Benz India achieved a sales landmark for 2024, delivering 19,565 vehicles, which represents a 12.4 per cent year-on-year growth, according to CEO Santosh Iyer. In a statement on 9 January, Iyer credited the company’s strong performance to several strategic initiatives such as expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, increasing local production and launching the new E-Class.

The first half of 2024 saw the luxury car market grow by 9 per cent, with Mercedes-Benz aligning with this broader market expansion. However, in the second half of the year, the automaker outpaced its competitors, posting 16 per cent growth, while the overall luxury market grew by only 3 per cent.

Iyer also emphasised that the company’s sustained success was fuelled by a Rs 3,000 crore investment aimed at reinforcing its leadership in the Indian luxury automotive sector. “With this investment, we lead the Indian market by any luxury OEM,” he said.

The G580, a model crafted for off-road enthusiasts, stands out in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup as a rugged luxury SUV priced at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). While designed for tough terrains, it retains the classic G-Class features, including round LED headlights and a rear-mounted box for charging cables. Inside, the G580 is equipped with advanced technology, offering dual 12.3-inch displays, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, wireless charging and a premium Burmester sound system.

On the more affordable end of the electric vehicle (EV) spectrum, Mercedes-Benz also introduced the locally assembled EQS SUV 450, priced at Rs 1.28 crore (ex-showroom). This model targets eco-conscious luxury buyers who seek a blend of sustainability and luxury.

As Mercedes-Benz expands its presence in India, its diverse range of vehicles, from off-roaders to electric SUVs, aims to cater to a growing segment of luxury consumers who value both performance and environmental responsibility.
