MIB Warns News Channel Not To Live Telecast Anti-terror Operations: Report

Media coverage may be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government till the operation concludes," the ministry said

Private news networks have received a warning from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) not to broadcast live security force anti-terrorism operations. The I&B ministry cited Rule 6 (1) (p), which states that no cable service should air a programme that includes live coverage of a security force's anti-terrorism operation.

According to an industry report, the I&B ministry issued the warning after several TV networks purportedly aired live footage of the anti-terrorist operations in Jammu's Kathua and Doda.

Quoting the ministry, the report stated that such telecast is in violation of Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021 and liable for action thereunder. "Media coverage may be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government till the operation concludes," the ministry said according to the report.
