Sharad Kumar, a retired IPS officer has been appointed as the new chief of the BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit. He will hold this position for a three-year term.
At 68, Kumar will oversee issues related to match-fixing and betting scandals. A 1977-batch IPS officer from the Haryana cadre, he succeeds KK Mishra, another former IPS officer from the same cadre who was appointed last year but did not complete his tenure, according to reports.
Kumar previously served as Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from 2013 to 2017.
During his time as Director General of the NIA, Kumar led numerous high-profile investigations and operations. Following his NIA tenure, he served as Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission from June 2018 to April 2020 and for a brief period, he also held the role of Central Vigilance Commissioner, as per media reports.
