Retaining the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw is now the Minister of Information and Broadcasting as well. He succeeds Himachal Pradesh's BJP MP from Hamirpur, Anurag Thakur.
Vaishnaw is also a Member of the Rajya Sabha representing Odisha since 2019.
Since July 2021, Vaishnaw has been the Railway Minister. Piyush Goyal, who oversaw the Ministry from September 2017 to July 2021, has been replaced by him.
The politician and former IAS officer from India held the positions of 39th Minister of Railways, 55th Minister of Communications, and 2nd Minister of Electronics and Information Technology in the Government of India between 2022 and 2024. Since 2019, he has represented Odisha in the Rajya Sabha.
After attending St. Anthony's Convent School in Jodhpur, Vaishnaw graduated with a gold medal in an electronic and communications engineering course from MBM Engineering College in 1991. She then went on to complete her M.Tech at IIT Kanpur. Later, in 1994, he was ranked 27th overall when he entered the Indian Administrative Service.
He went to the US in 2008 to complete his MBA at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. After returning to India, he joined GE Transportation as a Managing Director. Later, he became the Vice President of Locomotives and Head of Urban Infrastructure Strategy at Siemens.
With this, L Murugan has also been sworn in as MoS in the Modi team. Prime Minister Narendra Modi retained L Murugan as a union minister in the new council of ministers. Murugan had unsuccessfully contested from the Nilgiris Parliamentary constituency.
