Following the Mumbai Ghatkopar illegal hoarding collapse, numerous local authorities nationwide are actively removing unauthorised hoardings in their cities.
As per media reports, recently, the Sinhagad Road zonal office conducted structural stability assessments on 143 hoardings by 31 March, 2025. Of these, four were deemed unsafe and promptly removed.
Moreover, all hoarding owners have been urged to dismantle their structures to mitigate potential risks and financial losses during strong winds.
Previously, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has already removed 53 illegal hoardings and vows to sustain this effort. Among the city's 85 illegal hoardings, 84 cluster in the Hadapsar-Mundhwa region, with one in Aundh-Baner.
Rajendra Bhosale, Commissioner, PMC directed officials to conduct a crackdown on illegal hoardings and conduct structural audits of authorised billboards during a meeting. As per media reports, the city has initiated the drive accordingly.
Bhosale mentioned, “Officials and ward officers have been instructed to conduct a structural audit of hoardings and submit reports within the next two days. If action is not taken then officials will face action.”
On 5 June, PMC officials discovered 11 out of 491 inspected hoardings to be hazardous and promptly removed them under the Wagholi – Nagar Road Regional Office's supervision. License Inspector Ganesh Bharti confirmed that the operation is currently in progress.
