Govt Orders Digital Platforms To Halt Ads Of Deceptive Loan Apps

The government has directed social media and online platforms to refrain from hosting advertisements of fraudulent loan apps, as stated by Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Wednesday.

Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, emphasised that the IT ministry has explicitly communicated to these platforms that carrying advertisements of fraudulent loan apps is unacceptable, according to a media report. These apps are known to mislead individuals and exploit users who navigate the internet for financial assistance.

During an event, Chandrasekhar highlighted the ongoing evolution of jurisprudence and the government's approach to ensure a safe and trusted online environment. He pointed out that the IT rules have delineated 11 specific areas that contain prohibited content, indicating the legal framework's focus on regulating such misleading practices.
