FIR Against OOH Agency Concerning Kalyan Hoarding Crash: Reports

The hoarding crashed down at Kalyan's Sahajanand Chowk last week and crushed three parked vehicles

In the billboard crash incident in Kalyan, the local civic body has registered an FIR against an OOH agency, as per media reports.

The hoarding crashed down at Kalyan's Sahajanand Chowk last week and crushed three parked vehicles, according to reports.

It also adds that the site was given out on a five-year contract by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), which has now accused the contractor of not maintaining the site as per standard procedures.

The incident comes months after the Ghatkopar 120-ft billboard collapsed. 16 people lost their lives in that incident and around 75 were injured.

It sparked a row of policy changes and discussions at the Mumbai municipal corporation. BMC has now come with a draft OOH policy that calls for a ban on rooftop hoarding displays, ads on glass facades and gantry hoardings. The new policy also aims for stricter curbs on obscene or offensive DOOH.

As per reports, the KDMC has started auditing hoardings. Two hoardings were taken down on Saturday for failing to meet safety standards.
