Cannes Lions 2023: No Metals Awarded To India On Day 1

On Monday, June 19, the 70th edition of the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity began. The first round of awards was revealed, with five categories namely Pharma Lions, Health & Wellness Lions, Outdoor Lions, Print & Publishing Lions, and Radio & Audio Lions. In addition, the Lions Health and United Nations Foundation Grand Prix for Good.

On Day 1, none of India's shortlisted entries received an award in these categories.

Simon Cook, CEO, Lions, said, “We’re delighted to honour our first Lion winners who are raising the creative bar on the global stage. Thank you to all of our exceptional Jurors who have given their time, dedication, and expertise to define the creative benchmark for the Festival’s 70th edition.”

The Outdoor Lions, which celebrate innovation outside the home, got 1938 entries from which 59 Lions had been awarded, with 9 Gold, 19 Silver, and 30 Bronze Lions. The Grand Prix was awarded to 'A British Original' by London's Uncommon Creative Studio for British Airways.

814 entries were received in the Print & Publishing Lions, which recognise originality in circulation, and 26 Lions were awarded, with 4 Gold, 7 Silver, and 14 Bronze Lions, and the Grand Prix had been awarded to 'Newspapers Inside The Newspaper Edition' by Impact BBDO, Dubai, for AnNahar Newspaper. 

The Radio & Audio Lions, which celebrate creativity that has a passion for sound, obtained 715 entries from which 22 Lions were awarded, with three Gold, seven Silver, and eleven Bronze Lions. The Grand Prix went to Colenso BBDO, Auckland's 'Phone It In' campaign for Skinny, New Zealand's telecommunications operator.

1297 entries were received for the Health & Wellness Lions, which encourage inventiveness for personal well-being out of which 37 Lions were awarded, with 6 Gold, 13 Silver, and 17 Bronze Lions. 'The Last Performance' by Special, Auckland, won the Grand Prix for Partners Life.

The Pharma Lions, which honour life-changing creativity, awarded 13 Lions from 354 entries, with two Gold, four Silver, and six Bronze Lions. The Pharma Grand Prix was awarded to 'Scrolling Therapy' by Dentsu Creative Buenos Aires / Dentsu Creative New York / Dentsu Creative Chicago for Eurofarma.

The Lions Health and United Nations Foundation Grand Prix for Good was also revealed, with the Grand Prix being awarded to 'Working with Cancer' by La Foundation Publicis Chicago / Publicis Conseil Paris / Le Truc New York / Digitas New York / Saatchi & Saatchi Health, New York / Publicis Groupe UK, London for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre (MSK).
