The competition between Swiggy and Zomato has heated up as Swiggy is reportedly set to sponsor Season 4 of Shark Tank India. Notably, Zomato's CEO, Deepinder Goyal had served as a judge on the previous season but has revealed that he will not be returning for the upcoming one, citing Swiggy's involvement as the reason.
Goyal said, “I unfortunately can't go back because Swiggy sponsored Shark Tank this time and kicked me out.”
According to a media report, Swiggy is close to finalising a sponsorship deal for the show, with a reported value of Rs 25 crore.
Shark Tank India recently began filming for its fourth season. Judges from the previous seasons including Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal, Emcure Pharmaceuticals Executive Director Namita Thapar, Lenskart co-founder Peyush Bansal and OYO Rooms founder Ritesh Agarwal will continue in their roles.
Meanwhile, Swiggy is preparing for a stock market debut by the end of the year. Last month, the company updated its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The company plans to spend up to Rs 1,000 crore over four years on brand marketing across traditional, OTT and digital media channels. This includes Rs 929.5 crore in net proceeds allocated for brand marketing and promotional activities until FY2028, with projected spendings of Rs 61.5 crore in FY2025, Rs 239 crore in FY2026, Rs 266 crore in FY2027 and Rs 363 crore in FY2028.
Swiggy noted in its DRHP that it intends to invest in targeted marketing campaigns and brand-building initiatives to boost brand recall, attract and retain users and grow its network of restaurant, merchant and delivery partners.
Additionally, Swiggy has officially unveiled its bulk order service, Swiggy XL EV fleet, which uses electric vehicles to fulfill large orders. The service, which had been in a pilot phase for the past few weeks, was formally launched in Gurugram on Saturday.
