Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited, owner of Sony Sports Network acquired exclusive TV rights for T20 Major League Cricket (MLC) in India for one year.
A major share from the ongoing cricket traction in the United States can be attributed to MLC, attracting attention from India's cricket fans. The involvement of Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings adds excitement for their supporters. Top cricketers like Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran are expected to feature in the upcoming edition of the league.
The MLC’s second season features an all-star lineup of announcers, including the former captain of the Indian national cricket team and great batsman Sunil Gavaskar, Pakistani legendary bowler Wasim Akram, former New Zealand and Auckland cricketer Danny Morrison, alongside Daren Ganga, Pommie Mbangwa, Matthew Hayden, Chris Morris, Natalie Germanos, Scott Styris, and Mike Haysmen.
The inaugural MLC season was a critical success, featuring six teams namely San Francisco Unicorns, Washington Freedom, Texas Super Kings, Seattle Orcas, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and MI New York. MI New York won the championship, defeating Seattle Orcas in the final at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas. Nicholas Pooran, who scored 388 runs, was named Player of the Season.
Sony Sports Network's cricket portfolio already includes rights for New Zealand Cricket, the England Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket and the recent India Tour of Zimbabwe T20I series.
The second edition begins on July 6, 2024, with MI New York vs. Seattle Orcas at Church Street Park, Morrisville. The grand finale will be broadcast live from Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas, on July 29, 2024.
