Self-declaration Certificates: MIB Requests Two-weeks Extension From SC

The Supreme Court was asked by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to provide an extension of two weeks for the submission of affidavits related to Self Declaration Certificates (SDC) in court. The hearing was scheduled for July 30 by the SC.

According to industry sources, "MIB requested the court for two weeks of additional time to submit an affidavit as they are still receiving suggestions from the stakeholders."

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) was ordered by the Supreme Court to provide an affidavit with suggestions on the self-declaration certificate method for ads within three weeks. On July 9, 2024, a bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta issued the directive.

The Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA), the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI), the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), and the Association of Radio Operators were among the industry bodies whose intervention applications were being heard by the court.

To create an implementable structure around the SDCs, the court had instructed MIB to arrange brainstorming sessions with stakeholders. They were to present their proposals within three weeks.
