Prime Day 2024: Amazon To Empower Consumers With Choice, Speed & Savings

Amazon is raring to kickstart its two-day extravaganza, pinning focus on its winning formula of 'customer obsession'

It is reining deals and discounts as Amazon ushers in the eighth edition of its Prime Day sale on July 20 and July 21. The brand expects a bigger and better festival this year after having reported a 14 per cent rise in Prime member purchases in 2023, compared to Prime Day 2022. Last year, Amazon also witnessed as many as 22,190 orders in a single minute, its highest-ever sales figure for a Prime Day event.

Prime Day 2024, as Akshay Sahi, Head of Amazon Prime, Delivery and Returns Experiences, India and Emerging Markets, explains, will continue to build upon its three pillars, ‘Great Deals, New Product Launches, and Blockbuster Entertainment'.

He further affirms that the brand’s ‘Sach main too much’ credo will unlock plenty of benefits with just one membership. “Prime has evolved to be a lifestyle choice for people across India. As Jeff Bezos says, we want Prime to be such good value that you cannot resist it,” adds Sahi.

On Products & Categories

Thousands of new product launches from over 450+ top Indian and global brands, including small and medium businesses (SMBs), women entrepreneurs, artisans, weavers and local shops, will make their way to this year's Prime Day sale.

Giving us a sneak peek into the categories that typically rule the roost are smartphones, laptops, consumer electronics, toys, and home improvements, says Abhinav Agarwal, Director and Head of Prime, Amazon India. Some of India’s leading brands, including Boat, Samsung, Samsonite, Agaro, etc., are also waiting in anticipation to launch their latest products and brands during this time.

“The idea is to meet the diverse needs of consumers, and empower them with choice, speed, vast collection, affordability and savings,” supports Agarwal.

On Strengthening Delivery Network

Highlighting some of the previous year's consumer trends that are expected to continue this time as well, Agarwal agrees that there is a greater expectation by consumers in terms of Amazon’s delivery service, “While this trend is more prevalent in Tier 1, consumers are looking for a vast variety with faster deliveries.” Nearly 97 per cent of pin codes get two-day deliveries or faster, it is reported.

With the anticipated uptick in demand, the team is working towards scaling up its delivery network, which will further help attain speed of deliveries and improvements in the user experience on its app.

On Surging Subscriptions

It is usual for Amazon to witness a jump in memberships ahead of Prime Day. Agarwal expects a similar outcome this year as well. He stresses, “Consumers are rationalising and deriving value from each of their subscriptions. Our communication and transparency with them have resulted in a better retention rate as we believe in delivering value."

Amazon India’s latest strategy to launch customised plans with Prime Lite and Prime Shopping will further help them scale up the Prime membership program in the country this year.

In all, it looks like a perfect time to unwind, indulge in blockbuster entertainment and enjoy fantastic deals and savings across various categories. Isn't it?
