Microsoft’s Satya Nadella Commits $3 Bn & AI Training For 10 Mn Indians By 2030

This additional USD 3 billion marks Microsoft’s single largest investment in India

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, during his visit to Bengaluru on Tuesday, unveiled a plan to strengthen India's digital ecosystem. Nadella revealed a USD 3 billion investment to expand Microsoft's infrastructure in India, alongside a new initiative to train 10 million people in artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030.  

Speaking at the Microsoft AI Tour event, Nadella stressed the importance of India as a critical hub for innovation and growth. “We have 60-plus regions and 300-plus data centres around the world. In India, we are excited about all our regions — Central India, South India, West India. So, we have a lot of regional expansion happening,” he said. 

This additional USD 3 billion marks Microsoft’s single largest investment in India, pointing to the country’s position as a key market in the company’s global strategy. The funds will be directed toward expanding Microsoft's existing data centers and establishing new infrastructure to cater to the growing demand for cloud services and AI-driven solutions. 

AI Training for 10 Million Indians 

As part of Microsoft’s commitment to empower India’s workforce, Nadella announced a comprehensive initiative to train 10 million people in AI-related skills by 2030. This programme will look to address the skill gap in emerging technologies, enabling professionals and students to harness the potential of AI across industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and education.
