In yet another step into the metaverse, Meta has launched a digital store on its social and messaging platforms to help its users express themselves by styling their avatars. The store is expected to go online sometime next week. The ‘Avatars Store’ sill feature on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
Meta Platforms founder, Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement during an Instagram Live with Instagram’s vice president of fashion partnerships Eva Chen.
“We're launching our Avatars Store on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger so you can buy digital clothes to style your avatar”, announced Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO.
The company has not revealed the information about the pricing of the outfits for the virtual avatars. However, there will be free clothing options available for the avatars to trial,
“Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy. I'm excited to add more brands and bring this to VR soon too. Eva Chen and I tried out some of the new looks from Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne – a change of pace from my terrycloth sweater”, shared Zuckerberg.
Meta’s Avatars Store is expected to go online next week in Canada, Thailand, the US, and Mexico initially.
