Youtube Ads: SC Dismisses Compensation Plea, Imposes Penalties

The Supreme Court on Friday imposed a Rs 25,000 fine on a petitioner seeking Rs 75 lakh in compensation from Google India for YouTube advertisements with explicit content. 

A Madhya Pradesh resident filed a petition, claiming that his attention was diverted by advertisements, resulting in his failure to clear a competitive examination, which the apex court dismissed as "atrocious."

Justices SK Kaul and AS Oka interrogated the petitioner, who claimed that he wanted damages because he was distracted by the advertisements on the internet, due to which he could not pass the examination. They added that this petition under Article 32 is one of the most atrocious petitions, the bench has ever seen. 

A ban on social media platforms that display nudity has also been requested by the petitioner. 

The beach said that do not watch any advertisement, if you don't like. Adding on they said that his choice of watching the advertisement is his responsibility. 

At first, the bench imposed a fee of Rs one lakh on the petitioner. After arguing in Hindi , the petitioner asked for forgiveness and urged the charge to be removed. The petitioner was also unemployed.

The bench concluded by stating that he should not come to the court and file such petitions for publicity purpose.
