Starbucks disclosed that Brian Niccol, currently the CEO of Chipotle Mexican Grill will succeed Laxman Narasimhan as Chairman and CEO. The leadership change came less than a year after Narasimhan took on the role.
Niccol is set to begin his new position on September 9 with Chief Financial Officer Rachel Ruggeri serving as interim CEO until then, according to the company's statement.
Niccol shared his enthusiasm about joining Starbucks stating, “I am excited to join Starbucks and grateful for the opportunity to help steward this incredible company, alongside hundreds of thousands of devoted partners.”
Niccol began his tenure at Chipotle Mexican Grill as CEO and Director in March 2018 and he became Chairman of the Board in March 2020.

Prior to Chipotle, Niccol was the CEO of Taco Bell, where he previously held several roles including Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer and President. His career also includes leadership positions at Pizza Hut. He started in brand management at Procter & Gamble.
