As per media reports, following Microsoft, Google has terminated over 100 employees within its ‘fastest-growing’ Cloud service division.
According to the report, last week, the Sundar Pichai-led company informed its staff about these reductions, impacting roles in sales, consulting, ‘go-to-market’ strategy, operations, and engineering. Approximately 100 positions were eliminated, as seen in internal correspondence.
The report mentioned that the spokesperson familiar with the situation informed that these reductions are incremental across teams, aiming to better align with the go-to-market organisation. The spokesperson also mentioned that the company is continuously adapting its business to align with its customers' needs and the vast potential ahead; Google remains dedicated to investing in areas crucial to its operations, ensuring sustained success in the long run.
According to the report, some of the individuals terminated had contributed to Google's annual Google Cloud Next event held in April this year.
Just last month, rumours circulated that Google had dismissed around 200 employees from its core team. Additionally, there were announcements regarding the relocation of certain positions to India and Mexico. The Core unit, responsible for constructing Google's flagship product infrastructure and ensuring user online safety, underwent restructuring.
Asim Husain, Vice President of Developer Ecosystem, Google informed his team of the layoffs via email, describing it as the most extensive planned reduction for his team this year. He stressed the company's commitment to maintaining its global presence while expanding into high-growth areas to collaborate more closely with partners and developer communities.
