EC Promotes Responsible, Ethical Use Of Social Media Ahead Of Elections

Furthermore, the EC warned political parties against the improper use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to produce deepfakes and spread false information

According to sources, on May 6, the Election Commission (EC) has requested political parties to take down any false information from all their social media accounts within three hours of being made aware of it.

The EC has also requested parties to refrain from employing children in their campaigns, post information that is disparaging of women, avoid impersonating others, refrain from harming animals and desist from disseminating or publishing deepfake films.

Deepfake films featuring Rahul Gandhi of the Congress, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been making the rounds recently. Social media networks quickly removed these videos, and complaints were made about them.

Furthermore, the EC warned political parties against the improper use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to produce deepfakes and spread false information. To provide an even playing field for all parties, the EC sent directives to political parties about the moral and responsible use of social media during the elections.
