Trademark Dispute Over '6e': Mahindra & Mahindra In Talks With IndiGo For Resolution

IndiGo has sued M&M, claiming trademark infringement and requesting a remedy from the court's intellectual property division

According to sources, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is in talks with IndiGo Airlines' parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, to settle a trademark dispute amicably around the use of the letter "6e" in its new electric SUV model, BE 6e.

Earlier this month, the carmaker unveiled the BE 6e and XEV 9e, two electric brands.

IndiGo has sued M&M, claiming trademark infringement and requesting a remedy from the court's intellectual property division. IndiGo uses "6e" as their airline designator code.

However, reports state that the carmaker argues that its trademark, "BE 6e," which is registered under Class 12 (vehicles), is different from IndiGo's "6e" and does not cause confusion between the two.

The business clarified that "BE 6e" is a composite mark and not the same as IndiGo's "6E."

Mahindra made its debut in the electric SUV market on November 26 with the introduction of the BE 6e and XEV 9e. Whereas the XEV 9e has a range of 656 km, the BE 6e has a range of 682 km. It is anticipated that deliveries of these vehicles will start in February or March of 2025.

IndiGo has not yet released an official statement on the ongoing talks.
