Over the years, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) made a name for itself for its consumer-centric approach and for a very sharp focus on its employees. The company went a level up on both these counts in the year 2020. The crisis saw GCPL up its game, launching new products in categories such as personal and home hygiene across geographies including the flexible sachet model pricing.
The company also accelerated its pace of digitization and focus on platforms such as e-commerce in the year, keeping up with changing consumer demands. It continued strong people policies that reflect the present diversity in its global leadership and also undertook efforts towards the safety and wellbeing of its employees.
In 2020, GCPL has registered growth across its markets including India, Africa, USA & Middle East, Indonesia, Latin America & the SAARC region.
For its several initiatives that kept consumers engaged, addressing real market gaps, and for the growth of an Indian brand in international markets, and in India itself, GCPL is awarded BW PuRe Group of the Year Award 2020.
GCPL’s longstanding purpose, according to the company’s CEO for India and SAARC region, Sunil Kataria, has been to bring the best of health and beauty to consumers of emerging markets. Its core values, he says, include trust, humility, creating delighting, owning it, being bold and showing respect.
While sharing his thoughts on purpose and resilience at the second edition of BW PuRe Awards, Kataria said, “People, planet and profit will be held together while doing business. We have been at the forefront of extending support to various state governments in terms of Covid infrastructure and facilities. This was an active area of focus for us in the year.”
The community and people outreach has been at the center of what GCPL does. Kataria informed that the company has reached out to all the employees in a structured manner, periodically. “These are freewheeling conversations to understand what is going on in people’s minds. It helps the company to get real-time feedback, which is further used to advantage the employees and the organization at large,” Kataria said.
GCPL launched the ‘Godrej Protekt India Movement’ at the time when Covid was entering India. The movement assisted in boosting hand washing and building hygiene habits in the country at a very crucial time. “As a part of the movement, we have reached out to police forces, frontline health-workers and municipal corporations as they are the ones who have been supporting us in the pandemic,” explained Kataria.
He reiterated that for GCPL, the purpose is at the core of the company and that this will only be strengthened in the year ahead. The company has empirically seen growth and delivered on its business outcomes with this philosophy.
GCPL was named BW Puee Group of the Year at the second edition of the BW PuRe (Purpose + Resilient) Brand Awards 2020, a BW Businessworld initiative presented by ABP Network, in association with Zee5.
