In a first, Amul’s brand of 'fresh milk' will be sold in the United States, writing its name in the history of milk cooperatives in India.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has tied up with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) to sell 'fresh milk' in the East Coast and Midwest markets of the US.
Jayen Mehta, managing director of GCMMF shared how the brand had been exporting milk to the US market for the past 25 years. However, this is the first time it will be sold under Amul's name.
“This partnership with Amul allows us to work with another cooperative to help them grow their brand in the United States, benefitting not only our dairy farmer members but those in India as well,” MMPA President & CEO Joe Diglio said. “MMPA’s strategic partnership with Amul will continue to enhance MMPA’s growing and diversified product mix while utilising our state-of-the-art technology.”
Amul will be rolling out its range of fresh milk in one-gallon (3.8 litres) and half-a-gallon (1.9 litres) packs under the Amul brand in the US. This includes Amul Gold containing 6 per cent milk fat, Amul Shakti with 4.5 per cent milk fat, Amul Taaza with 3 per cent milk fat and Amul Slim with 2 per cent milk fat.
Amul’s partnership with Michigan-based MMPA is a continuation of the brand’s ties to Michigan. Dr. Verghese Kurien, known as the Milkman of India and the founder chairman of GCMMF, is a Michigan State University alumnus and credited for the overall success of India’s dairy industry.
